Vespers

Five beams stand side by side at uneven heights, deep blue mottled with black, two of them faced in gold leaf. At the center, a small copper rectangle in a red border — the one warm note, and the only element that isn’t a column.

The piece is built to be read from the side as well as the front. Gold runs down the edges of two beams, so the work changes as you move past it: blue from one angle, lit gold from another.

Evening prayer, in blue.
