Inspired by the artist’s attendance in Budapest at a performance of his alltime favorite piece of music — Franz Liszt’s Christus, a monumental three-hour oratorio, Christus is a triptych in three movements — Incarnation, Ministry, Crucifixion & Resurrection — rendered in color field abstraction. Across three tall wood panels, horizontal bands of cobalt blue, black, gold leaf, and earth tones build a visual narrative that is felt before it is read.
The left panel opens with blue above and gold below — light descending into darkness. The center is the most earthbound: black dominates, interrupted by warm ochre and a thin white line. The right panel returns to blue with new intensity — cobalt burns, gold reappears, black bands frame a moment of transformation.
Thin white lines thread through all three panels at the same register, unifying the triptych across its full 72-inch span.
A contemplative, austere, and deeply felt tribute to the Savior.
